Catalytic exhaust - Alveolar filter ©Rhodia

A car’s exhaust passes through a honeycomb monolith (metallic or more commonly ceramic), whose interior surface is coated with the catalyst-inducing formulation which contains three key substances :
- precious metals such as : platinum, palladium, rhodium
- aluminum
- a rare earth-based material which enhances catalytic activity such as Rhodia’s ACTALYS
This global approach already complies with 2005 emissions limits.
