The steady increase of the number of cars world-wide increase also the number of accidents.
But, even if road transport has become much safer than it was in the past decades, the death toll remains too high : 40 000 casualties in EU in 2001.
When they buy a car, customers expect it to be safe for both occupants and others. This means that manufacturers must consider abroad range of factors relating to infrastructure, the driver and the vehicle itself. The overall level of safety depends on the effectiveness with which these factors are combined.
Road safety is a key priority in PSA Peugeot Citroën’s technological research and development.
10% of our Automobile Division’s R&D budget, or 160 million euro in 2002, are dedicated to your safety to:
- understand driver behaviour and improving perception and control;
- enhance road performance;
- protect vehicle occupants.
