Drinking Water is one of the most precious goods on our planet. Sustainable technologies try to use as little as possible of it. An example: Atofina doubled the production of polypropylene in its plant in Feluy/Belgium, but put the target that they would need only 10% more water. How can you achieve this? The answer was complex: Cooling towers for the reactors and the extrusion unit are no longer cooled with water, the other cooling systems use more recycled and demineralized water. This also resulted in a reduction of 2/3 of chlorid and sulfate discharges during production.
