The Cité des sciences et de l'industrie

The Cité des sciences et de l'industrie

Located in the Parc de la Villette in the northeast of Paris, the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie is the largest centre for popularization of science and technology in Europe, and without doubt one of the most innovative.

A place where science is explained and shared, a creative nucleus for the benefit of all, the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie is neither a museum nor a laboratory, nor is it a university. To make the development of science, technology and industrial techniques accessible to every kind of public, the Cité offers a wide range of exhibitions and shows, a Médiathèque resource centre providing individual service, and a College running seminars and forums on the foundations and issues of contemporary science. It also sends touring exhibitions around France and to other countries.

By helping the public to understand major advances in science or technology and participate in the key debates of our time, the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie is narrowing the gulf between science and the citizen. Its ambition is to be a forum for the future, where members of the public, scientists, industrialists, and politicians compare their points of view and together build tomorrow's society.

Hall of la Cité des sciences et de l'industrie

With almost 3 million visitors each year, the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie is one of the most popular cultural establishments in Paris. Moreover. its travelling exhibitions are seen each year by some 500,000 people in the French provinces and almost 300,000 in other countries.

To bring everything it offers to an even wider audience, the Cité has considerably developed its Internet site (www.cite-science.fr). Visitors will find full details of all its activities, from useful information - opening hours, admission charges, etc. - to descriptions of the exhibitions, shows and forthcoming events. The website also offers a range of activities relating to science and technology, interactive games, video films, online contributions, discussion forums and the content of College conferences.
